Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Overview for Construction (US)
Some people think of personal protective equipment, or PPE, as a nuisance. All too often, people think “I’ll skip it just this once” or “nothing is going to happen to me.” PPE is more comfortable and less restrictive than ever before due to design advances and improved materials. New tinted-lens safety glasses have optics and styling that rival street-wear sunglasses. New safety-toe footwear is lightweight, comfortable, and can be easily mistaken for non-rated casual shoes and boots. Hard hats offer high levels of protection and comfort, and some even come badged with sports team logos and colors! Wear the right PPE and you’ll be just as productive and nearly as comfortable as if you were wearing no PPE at all. The few seconds saved not putting on your PPE simply are not worth the life-altering consequences of hearing loss, loss of your eyesight, or worse.
