Bouchard Transportation’s whistleblower violation made them pay $375K.

The brother of one of two seamen killed in a barge accident off the coast of Texas has received $375,000 in compensation from Bouchard Transportation. The whistleblower said he was terminated because he cooperated with investigators and reported safety issues to the US Coast Guard. Under a consent deal with the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration to address breaches of the Seaman’s Rights Act’s whistleblower protection provisions, Bouchard Transportation Co. Inc. and the individual respondents decided to take other corrective measures. All companies must comply with OSHA guidelines for HAZMAT transportation carrier requirements.
