Companies fined by OSHA, as workers killed on-site.

Two companies fined by osha When the Killen Power Generation Station’s structure collapsed on Dec. 9, 2020, two individuals engaged to demolish the facility were dead. A worker cutting steel and a truck driver ready to transport the scrap metal off-site.

OSHA of the United States of America reviewed the multi-employer project and cited two Michigan firms – general contractor Adamo of Detroit and East China-based SCM Engineering Demolition Inc. Both were cited by OSHA for multiple safety violations during the demolition project, including violations of the general duty clause and failure to inspect the site regularly for potential hazards caused by the demolition process, such as weakened or deteriorated floors, walls, and loosened material.

Additionally, OSHA concluded that the firms let workers to operate in dangerous situations without shoring, bracing, or other ways of stabilizing the structure, and failed to teach them on recognizing possible dangers. Two companies fined by OSHA. Adamo was requested to pay $181,724 in one willful, repeated, severe, and other-than-severe safety violation. SCM Engineering faces a $12,288 fine for three flagrant offences.
