Training Process
Understand the roles and responsibilities of a Level III Hazmat Technician. Identify hazardous materials and classify them according to DOT and OSHA regulations. Demonstrate knowledge of hazard recognition and risk assessment techniques. Apply proper containment, control, and mitigation procedures for hazardous materials incidents. Understand the use and limitations of personal protective equipment (PPE) in hazmat operations. Follow proper decontamination procedures for personnel, equipment, and affected areas. Implement emergency response protocols safely and effectively during hazmat incidents. Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local hazardous materials regulations. Each Hazmat Employer must train, test, and certify each Hazmat Employee within 90 days of employment. Recurrent training is required at least once every three years. Initial training is mandatory within 90 days for new employees or for employees assuming new hazmat responsibilities. Until fully trained, employees may perform hazardous materials (HazMat) functions only under direct supervision. The Department of Transportation requires all hazmat employees to be retrained and tested at least once every three years.
