Training Process
OSHA requires that general hazardous waste site workers who are becoming supervisors or managers complete a minimum of 16 hours of training during their first year in a supervisory role. This includes 8 hours of management and supervisory instruction in addition to 8 hours of refresher training for employees. Supervisors must receive training and supervised field experience at least equivalent to the level of their team members, along with an additional 8 hours of specialized instruction covering the topics outlined in 29 CFR 1910.120(e)(4). When mandated by OSHA, workers must undergo additional training focused on the specific hazards of their work environment. Using certified training providers helps ensure program credibility and enhances the company’s overall safety framework. In addition to external courses, supervisors should complete site-specific training provided by their employer. This training should address the company’s approach to hazard prevention, including the use of on-site equipment, adherence to health and safety policies, and emergency response procedures. Proper documentation of this training is essential for regulatory compliance.
