Training Process
Employers are required to provide cotton dust training to all employees who may be exposed in accordance with OSHA standards. A structured training program must be established and maintained, ensuring that all affected workers actively participate and understand the associated hazards and control measures. Training must be completed prior to an employee’s initial assignment in any area where cotton dust exposure may occur. In addition, refresher training is required on an annual basis, as well as whenever there is a change in job duties, work processes, or when employee performance indicates a lack of understanding or need for retraining. Workers must also receive job-specific hazard training as required by OSHA regulations. While external training providers help ensure consistency and regulatory alignment, employers are responsible for delivering site-specific instruction tailored to their own workplace conditions. This includes company procedures, safety equipment usage, exposure control methods, and emergency response protocols. All employer-provided training must be properly documented to ensure compliance and support regulatory inspections.
