Training Process

A complete DOT Hazardous Materials training curriculum must cover essential areas to ensure proper compliance. This includes General Awareness training, which can be basic or advanced, as well as Function-specific and Modal-specific training tailored to the employee’s role. Security awareness training is required to help personnel recognize and respond to potential threats. Where applicable, in-depth security training or driver training for motor vehicle operators should also be included. Safety awareness training is coming soon and may be added as part of the program. Depending on their specific job responsibilities, employees may also need OSHA, EPA, or other hazardous materials response training as required by their employer. In addition to training provided by external organizations, employees should receive site-specific instruction from their employer. This training focuses on the company’s unique procedures for hazard prevention, including the use of site-specific equipment, health and safety policies, and emergency protocols. All company-specific training should be properly documented.
