Training Process

This 16 hour EM 385 1-1 course is designed to help workers meet the fundamental safety and health training requirements for projects contracted by the U.S. Department of Defense, as outlined in the EM-385-1-1 manual issued by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Additional Training Depending on the specific job role, worksite conditions, or additional EM-385 requirements, employees may need further training. The Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) is responsible for identifying and communicating any additional training necessary for workers to safely perform their duties. Site-specific, Employer-provided Training Workers must complete additional training when required by federal, state, or local regulations, especially for hazards unique to their job. Employers are responsible for providing instruction on the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and emergency procedures. While external training providers enhance credibility, site-specific training should focus on company policies, equipment, and hazard control methods. Proper documentation of this training is essential to ensure compliance and demonstrate worker readiness
