Training Process

This course is designed to help workers fulfill the essential training requirements for employment on sites contracted by the U.S. Department of Defense, as outlined in the 2024 EM-385-1-1 manual from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Additional Training Depending on your job responsibilities, worksite conditions, or other EM-385-specific requirements, supplemental training may be necessary. The Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) is responsible for ensuring that workers receive any additional instruction required for their specific role. Site-Specific, Employer-Provided Training Workers must complete further training, as required by Federal, State, or local regulations, to address hazards specific to their job. Employers should provide instruction on proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and emergency response procedures. Outside training providers can be used for credibility, but site-specific training must address company-specific safety policies, equipment, and emergency protocols. Proper documentation of this training is essential. SSHO and CDSO Training To qualify as a Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) or Collateral Duty Safety Officer (CDSO), additional OSHA and EM-385-1-1-aligned courses are required, alongside documented industry experience and proof of competency in safety program supervision, hazard analysis, and risk management processes.
