Training Process
azmat training must include key components to ensure safety and compliance. This includes General Awareness training, which may be basic or advanced, along with Function-specific and Modal-specific training. Security awareness training is required, along with Safety training. In-depth security training is necessary if a security plan is in place, and Driver training applies to employees operating motor vehicles. Hazmat employers must train, test, and certify employees within 90 days of hire. Recurrent training is required at least once every three years. New employees or those assigned new hazmat duties may only perform related tasks under direct supervision until training is completed. DOT requires retraining every three years, while FAA regulations require air carrier employees to complete training every two years. This course provides training for personnel involved in transporting hazardous materials by rail. Additional training may be required based on job responsibilities, including emergency response, further DOT hazmat training, or instruction in the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Employers must also provide site-specific training focused on company procedures, hazard prevention, equipment use, and emergency response. All site-specific training should be properly documented.
