Training Process

This course is designed to help law enforcement personnel meet the Hazardous Materials First Responder Awareness (FRA) Level I Responder training requirements outlined in 29 CFR 1910.120(q)(6)(i) and 29 CFR 1926.65(q)(6)(i). It should be supported by agency-specific training based on the employer’s Emergency Response Plan (ERP), including procedures for handling hazardous materials incidents in the field. Employees may also require additional instruction on job-specific hazards, depending on their duties. Training from external providers should be complemented with site-specific or department-level training, focusing on operational procedures, equipment use, and safety protocols. This training must be properly documented. It is important to note that completing First Responder Operations (FRO) training can fulfill both FRA and FRO requirements, as FRO builds upon the awareness-level foundation.
