HazMat Transportation - Part 6c - Carrier Requirements - Rail (US)
The DOT (Department of Transportation) identifies requirements for transporting hazardous materials by rail in Part 174 of the HMR (Hazardous Materials Regulations). Rail carriers must adhere to these requirements in addition to Parts 171, 172, 173 and 179 of the HMR, which establish how hazardous materials must be: identified and classified on shipping papers; packaged and contained in rail or tank cars; as well as marked, labeled and/or placarded.
