Learning Objectives
- Reinforce knowledge of hazardous materials and their associated risks.
- Recognize the different classes of hazardous materials and understand labeling requirements.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA regulations for first responder awareness training.
- Understand the importance of company-specific emergency response procedures and site-specific hazard prevention measures.
Training Process
This refresher course is specifically designed to help workers meet the Hazardous Materials First Responder Awareness (FRA) Level I Responder training requirements outlined in 29 CFR 1910.120(q)(6)(i) and 29 CFR 1926.65(q)(6)(i). It should be combined with company-specific training on the employer’s Emergency Response Plan (ERP), including detailed policies and procedures for responding to hazardous materials incidents. To remain compliant with OSHA regulations, this FRA refresher must be completed within one year of the initial training and every year thereafter, or participants must demonstrate competency. Refresher training ensures responders stay current with hazardous materials awareness practices. Depending on the employee’s role, additional site-specific training may be required. This could include further emergency response instruction, hands-on PPE training, or training on hazards unique to the workplace. Employers must provide any training necessary for the proper use of protective equipment, and all company-specific instructions should be well-documented.
