HIPAA: General Awareness
This course provides an overview of the privacy, security, and standard transactions and code requirements that comprise HIPAA’s Administrative Simplification provisions. It also examines the responsibilities employees have for complying with these requirements. Until 1996, no comprehensive legislation protected the personal health information of America’s health plan enrollees. Many healthcare companies had vulnerable information handling procedures and maintained databases of patient information that were incompatible with systems used by other plans and providers. At one point, more than 400 separate electronic formats were in use for processing claims!
