Training Process
This course is designed to help workers fulfill the OSHA 24 Hour HAZWOPER training requirement as outlined in 29 CFR 1910.120(e)(3)(ii) and 29 CFR 1926.65(e)(3)(ii). Employees must also complete any additional training mandated by federal, state, or local regulations that pertain to the specific hazards of their job. Training on the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) or protective clothing for emergency response is required and should be provided by the employer. Annual Refresher Training To remain compliant with OSHA standards, participants are required to complete an 8-hour HAZWOPER refresher course annually. This refresher training should be taken within one year of completing the initial 24-hour course and every year thereafter to maintain up-to-date knowledge and safety skills. Upgrading Your Training Students who have completed the 24 Hour HAZWOPER course can advance to the 40 Hour HAZWOPER certification by taking an additional 16-hour upgrade course. There is no time restriction for completing this upgrade after the initial 24-hour training. Site-Specific Training In addition to theoretical training, employees should receive site-specific training from their employer. This should cover the company’s hazard prevention practices, use of on-site equipment, safety policies, and emergency procedures, with proper documentation for compliance purposes.
