Training Process
This course meets the Hazardous Materials First Responder Awareness (FRA) Level I Responder training requirements under 29 CFR 1910.120(q)(6)(i) and 29 CFR 1926.65(q)(6)(i). It should be paired with company-specific training on the employer’s Emergency Response Plan (ERP), including procedures and policies for employees who may encounter hazardous materials. OSHA standards may require additional training on the specific hazards of each employee’s job. To remain compliant and current, participants must complete annual refresher training or demonstrate competency. Refresher training should be completed within one year of the initial course and annually thereafter. Depending on the responder’s role, site-specific training, additional emergency response instruction, and PPE usage training may be necessary. Employers must provide training in any personal protective equipment used on the job. Site-specific training should reflect the company’s unique procedures, equipment, and safety policies and must be properly documented.
