Training Process
This course is designed to meet the Hazardous Materials First Responder Awareness (FRA) Level I training requirements outlined in 29 CFR 1910.120(q)(6)(i) and 29 CFR 1926.65(q)(6)(i). It provides foundational knowledge for employees who may encounter hazardous materials and need to act defensively until higher-level responders arrive. This training should be supplemented with company-specific instruction on the employer’s Emergency Response Plan (ERP), including policies, procedures, and site-specific safety protocols. FRA Level I responders must complete annual refresher training or demonstrate competency to remain compliant with OSHA regulations. Refresher training should be completed within one year of initial training and repeated annually. Depending on the employee’s role, additional instruction may include site-specific training, PPE use, and emergency response procedures. Employers are responsible for ensuring this training is well documented and tailored to the unique hazards of their workplace.
